Track & Field Overview

St George District Athletic Club (SGDAC) has a very long and proud history in Track and Field.  We continue to support our athletes by providing coaching for all abilities and financial support for representative athletes and those athletes who consistently support us.

Track and Field encompasses sprint and distance running, hurdling, long, high and triple jumping, throwing events such as discus, shot put and javelin and race walking.

We provide coaching in many disciplines. Our coaches have developed many champions as well as athletes that have made great improvement and produced PB’s. Details can be found at Coaching.

To compete as a St George District Athletic Club athlete you will need to join/register with us through the NSW Athletics website and choose St George as your club.  Athletics NSW provides a registration number which is sewn or pinned to the front and back of your St George singlet/crop.  Our uniform consists of a red and white striped singlet or crop top (purchased through our club) and either red or black shorts.  The uniform and registration number must be worn at all Track and Field competitions.

Summer Season for Track and Field competition runs for approximately 6 months, starting in October and finishing with the Australian Athletics Championships in March/ April.

Most weekends there is one competition held at an athletic track in Sydney, the majority of competitions are hosted at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, Homebush.

Competitors range in age from the Under 12 age group up to Masters. Most athletes compete in the Open Age group for greater competition.

There are general competitions called All Comers and Treloar Shield which are held on Saturday afternoons and during the season the following “Highlight Events” are contested as well as Club Championships and Track Classic events.

Some Highlight events include:

NSW State Relay Championships which are held over 2 days in November each year. NSW Athletics Medals are awarded to placegetters. The St George Committee will submit Relay Teams from those athletes who nominate to compete.  The nomination form is available on our website.

Shot Put

NSW Junior and Open Championships which are normally held in February each year. An athlete can enter any event that is available in their age group, to compete for NSW Athletics Medals awarded to placegetters.  This competition is also the qualifying competition to compete at the Australian Athletics Open and Junior Championships which are held in either March or April each year, which finishes off the season.
